Management

Genius Kilimanjaro Climbing

Genius Kilimanjaro is 100% owned by Patrick Makere since 2015. Patrick used to be a porter and trained to be a mountain guide, working as a contractor for big outfitters. Building an own company that truly respect the needs of the porters has always be his dream. It is not easy, it has to be done between climbs and in the low season. In 2022 Steven and Lisette climbed with Patrick and his team and were impressed with Patrick’s vision and drive to improve porter live. They are happy to support Patrick in further developing Genius Kilimanjaro as advisors and non-executive directors. They receive no reimbursements.

About Genius Kilimanjaro

ERIC FRANK LAIZER.

My name is Eric Frank Laizer. I am twenty six years old (26).I am a Tanzanian, born and raised in Arusha in a small town called Moivo.
I completed my primary education in 2011 at Ilboru and continued with my secondary education at Enyoito secondary school and completed in 2015.
There after I started engaging myself with work and I had a chance to work in a tourism industry mainly as a porter.
Working at the tourism industry has exposed me with different experiences, skills and knowledge among other things it has built my work ethics. I have learnt to work hard and smart, to respect others, team work, to communicate and live with people from different countries.
From the industry i was also motivated to learn about food production as they say good food is a foundation of genuine happiness. I am currently enrolled in food production classes and i aspire to be the best chef who is able to professionally cook dishes from different cultures.
Tourism work has helped me to pay my bills and be able to take care of my family (my child and mother) who depends on me for food, cloths, shelter and other needs.
Lastly my biggest aspiration as mentioned earlier is to be the best chef and be able to provide for my family also to inspire other youth to follow their dreams so as they can live a life with a positive impact. And now I am working with GENIUS KILIMANJARO CLIMBING

EMMANULE MASSAWE

My name is Emmanuel Massawe. I am a Tanzanian born in 1988. I attended my primary education level in Loruvani primary school in 1993 and in 2001 I joined Enaiboshu secondary school. Unfortunately, I only attended two levels in my secondary education as my parents were not able to pay for me school fees and other requirements to finance my secondary education.
Not being able to continue with my studies was a massive shock to me, as I hoped education would later help me and my family to manage life needs.
Eventually I had to accept and started to work so as to contribute in the family based on the financial hardships that was already there. As I was unable to finish school and still young in age I struggled to get an employment for a long period of time. I thought of self-employment as the only other option. I Had a bicycle and I used it to as means of transport for other people and charged them. The money I got helped but it was still inadequate so I also started other smaller business to support my family as I was already a father of two kids.
I later on made a decision to join tourism industry as a porter and I had a chance to carry guests luggage’s to Mount Kilimanjaro. It was a new yet nice experience for me to connect with new people and change all the things that I knew previous .To date I still work as a porter and I do not regret joining the tourism industry as I have grown to love and understand my work .Being a porter is now my full time job and it is helping me to support my life and children. I intend to give my energy and attention to ensure to assist and give the best experience to the guests that I will attending as this is where I see my future. And now I am working with GENIUS KILIMANJARO CLIMBING as a camping manager
