Your adventure begins the moment you step foot in Tanzania, as you arrive at either Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport.

A comfortable transfer to an Arusha hotel will be arranged, where you can unwind, recuperate, or even explore the charming town of Arusha at your own pace.

Arusha National Park covers Mount Meru, a prominent volcano with an elevation of 4566 m, in the Arusha Region of north eastern Tanzania. The park is small but varied with spectacular landscapes in three distinct areas. In the west, the Meru Crater funnels the Jekukumia River; the peak of Mount Meru lies on its rim.

Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano located 70 kilometres west of Kilimanjaro in southeast Arusha Region, Tanzania. At a height of 4,562.13 metres, it is visible from Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day, and is the fifth-highest of the highest mountain peaks of Africa, dependent on definition.

2Mount Meru

Schedule Details

Day 1: Momela Gate – Meriakamba Hut

Early in the morning you will be picked up from your hotel by the Genius Kilimanjaro climbing team and driven for 40 minutes to Momella Gate where you will complete legal registrations before you start ascending Mount Meru. You will hike for 4 – 5 hours covering a distance of 10 kilometers. We will be accompanied by an armed ranger to ensure our security. During your hike, you will have a chance to spot wild animals including buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, and antelope. On arrival at Miriakamba, you will find the Genius Kilimanjaro climbing team having organized your accommodation and preparing dinner. After dinner, you will spend the night at Miriakamba Hut.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut

After having breakfast served by Genius Kilimanjaro climbing chef you will hike from Miriakamba Hut to the Saddle Hut. Today’s hike is short but steep. It will take 4 hours. You will walk slowly up to Saddle Hut where you will have a hot lunch prepared by our chef. After lunch and relaxing at Saddle Hut we will make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru before returning to the camp for an early dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Saddle Hut – Summit – Momella Gate

Today Genius Kilimanjaro climbing team will wake you up early at 1:30 am with a warm cup of tea and biscuits to get you ready for your final ascent. Your headlamp will assist you in the early hour’s hike. Your climb will take you through Rhino Point at 3,800 meters above sea level and Cobra Point at 4350 meters above sea level before reaching the summit at 4566 meters high in time to watch a beautiful sunrise. At the summit, there is a possibility to see Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. After taking pictures for this memorable moment you will begin your descent back to Saddle Hut for a hot breakfast before heading to Momella gate for lunch then drive back to Arusha for an overnight stay.

My name is Patrick Makere. I was born in 1988 in Arusha Tanzania. I got interested in Kilimanjaro at a young age. In 2006 I started taking part in Kilimanjaro expeditions as a porter.
